Rosa Lelia Dorta Díaz received her M.Sc. Degree in Organic Chemistry in 1985 at the University of La Laguna, where she went on to achieve a Doctorate in Chemistry, which she completed in 1990, being awarded the Ph.D. Extraordinary Prize. In the same year, she obtained a Fulbright Grant and joined Prof. Peter K. Vollhardt’s group at the Chemistry Department of the University of Berkeley (California), for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship, investigating the participation of aromatic double bonds in cobalt-mediated cyclizations with alkynes and the strychnine synthesis via cobalt [2+2+2] cycloadditions. In 1993, back in Tenerife, she gained a Research contract from the Spanish national ‘Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas’, in 1996 she was appointed Assistant Lecturer, and in 1999 as Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at the University of La Laguna, where she continues her research. Rosa L. Dorta is responsible for the Environmental Organic Chemistry course (Chemistry and Pharmacy degrees), Chromatographic Techniques in Organic Chemistry (Master in Research Chemistry) among other lecturing activities. She was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy from June 2004 to May 2007, and is now the Coordinator of Educational Quality and Innovation and also Coordinator of Inter-University Cooperation Programmes with Africa and Latin- America at that Faculty.
